“An untapped resource of leadership for peace lies in the feminine half of humanity,” said Angelika Selle, president of the Women’s Federation for World Peace USA (WFWP), which is holding a conference at the University of Maryland this weekend. “This is not to be anti-man,” she stressed, “but to bring women to an equal place at the table of human affairs—to help solve problems at the local, national, and global levels.”
WFWP is an NGO in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the UN. Some 300 women are expected to attend the group’s 21st annual National Assembly from throughout the country. The Assembly will be held:
Saturday, Oct. 26
at the University of Maryland’s Stamp Student Union
2nd floor
from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The conference will address the theme “Learn to Lead: Raising the Next Generation of Women Leaders.” It will explore the importance of equipping young (and older) women with the skills they need to lead. at the University of Maryland’s Stamp Student Union
2nd floor
from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The founder of WFWP, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, together with her late husband, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, inaugurated WFWP in 1992, proclaiming the Era of Women. They foresaw that the time will come when women will play a central role in providing a leadership not in competition but in partnership with men, “based not on the logic of power, but on the logic of love.”
The assemblage will feature the 2nd annual Global Women’s Peace Network (GWPN) panel in which vibrant women leaders of all ages will address the topic, “Ingredients for a New Type of Leadership.”
After lunch, participants can choose from six interactive breakout sessions to acquire “tools to lead.” They are on the topics:
- “Your Journey to Leadership: Follow the Signs”
- “The Family Is the School for Leadership”
- “Make It Your Business to Be in Business!”
- “Beauty From the Inside Out”
- “Purity Is Power” and “Clean Slate: The Relationship Intelligence Curriculum”
- -- “Innovative Solutions to Social Ills Through the WFWP Philosophy”

- Goal of True Families
"The coming world will be one of reconciliation and peace based on women’s maternal character, love, and sociability. The time is coming when the power of women will save the world.
"Unfortunately today, many women’s organizations apparently believe that standing in opposition to men is the way to demonstrate the power of women. The result is an environment of competition and conflict. The women’s organizations my wife leads, on the other hand, seek to bring about peace on the principle that women should work together, take initiative, and empower one another across traditional lines of race, culture, and religion to create healthy families as the cornerstone of the culture of peace.
"The organizations she works with do not call for a liberation of women from men and families. Instead, they call for women to develop and maintain families filled with love. My wife’s dream is to see all women raised as true daughters with filial hearts who can create peace at home, in our communities, in our nations, and in the world. The women’s movement being carried out by my wife serves the goal of true families, which are the root of peace in all areas of life."
